The culture model that Edward Hall created by introducing Freud's theory of the unconscious constructed a future-favoring discourse regardless of its intention under the influence of the paradigm of stratum and placed basic culture as a thing of the past. The examples of the East Sea Rim region (northeast Asia), however, show that although shamanism is deemed to belong to the past or the bottom stratum and has given place to Confucianism, Buddhism, and Christianity, it has almost always existed in the present and on the surface in reality. Also, the 'religious activeness' of the shamanism in the region and its 'orientation to this world' has expanded its territory into that of Buddhism or Christianity like rhizomes.
The religious activeness, in which gods are revoked or expelled whenever required, can be referred to as 'human-oriented' or 'this-world-oriented'. Such this-world-oriented tendency can be seen through the entire East Sea Rim region.
Since the ecstasy theory of Eliade, the 'religious activeness', which attracts gods to the human territory through possession, has been referred to as the important characteristics of the shamanism in the region, but the religious activeness has meant the 'orientation to this world' from its origin. Therefore, the 'orientation to this world' can be referred to as the mainstream of the religious cognition in the region. It has showed the shift of religious power mainly through 'governing' and 'medical techniques'. Shamanism has not been hidden in the bottom but present on the surface of every religion (culture).
