This studyaims to analyze the structure of music of ‘Songseo’ and ‘Yulchang’, which are special genres in Korean traditional music. Furthermore, the study investigates the structure of music and content by the methode of textlinguistics.
‘Songseo’ is realized as a non-structural recitation, however, when the music is added, ‘Songseo’ and ‘Yulchang’ is sung as a monologue. Although the special structure of music and content in ‘Songseo’ and ‘Yulchang’ allow the beat to be increased or decreased, the structure of music is embedded invisibly as the structure of text.
On that account, this study investigates the structure of music and content of ‘Jeokbyokbu’ and ‘Chokseokru-Poem’ in the methode of textlinguistics. It reveals that ellipsis, repetition, and abbreviation often occur in ‘Jeokbyokbu’ and ‘Chokseokru’, furthermore, there is strong text cohesion in both poems.
Through the examination of the lyrics in ‘Jeokbyokbu’ and ‘Chokseokru-Poem’, it is identified that the ‘Songseo’ and ‘Yulchang’ have a strong solidarity with the text cohesion. Especially, the ending of a word which shows the characteristic of parallel and the ending of a word which refers to a reason are both used to indicate the way of strong text cohesion. Furthermore, examining the solidarity, the lexicons are specifically converged on the specific topic as human and nature.
It is important to investigate the singing method for understanding the literary work in late Choseon dynasty. For understanding and transmitting the modern cultural art, it is also essential to study ‘Songseo’ and ‘Yulchang’. In this sense, this study examines the text of ‘Songseo’ and ‘Yulchang’ both within contents and within forms and it analyze them in textlinguistics.
