이 연구는 로베르트 드 보그랑드의 대표작 <텍스트와 담화 과학의 새로운 기반>(New Foundations for a Science of Text and Discourse)를 중심으로 해서 그의 언어학 이론을 재조명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. In this study I revisit the linguistic perspectives and findings of Robert de Beaugrande by analyzing the contents of his masterpiece, New Foundations for a Science of Text and Discourse (1997). This book shows that his linguistic thoughts were based on a unity of ecologism, functionalism and constructivism. With these as his theoretical basis, he analysed the dialectic interactions between linguistic components, such as lexicogrammar, discourse, prosody, etc. He discussed the interactions of different languages as well as of different societies. From this unique theoretical foundation, he also diagnosed the problems inherent in modern education and suggested how best to fix them. Not only is his linguistic theory meaningful in all of 20th Century linguistics, but will remain an important milestone for years to come.
