This study is to analyze the formativeness of quilting with dyed thread and apprehend the origin of quilting with dyed thread. To do this, after analyzing the formativeness of quilting with dyed thread relics and comparing the result with the formativeness of wrapper of Gangreung, we estimated the origin, by synthesizing social, geographical background, etc. which quilting with dyed thread is produced. For the method of research, we investigated the relics of quilting with dyed thread or analyzed with photo, in order to grasp the formativeness of quilting with dyed thread. To presume the origin of quilting with dyed thread, we studied the literature about rapper of Gangreung, Gangreung quilting, social background, and geographical environment, etc., and compared the material, unit design with the material, design composition of embroidery of wrapper of Gangreung, after analyzing for the formativeness of wrapper of Gangreung. The result is as follows: First, when it comes to the formativeness of relics for quilting with dyed thread, there are symmetrical and asymmetrical type for basic composition of pouch, clothwrapper for Beoseon, spectacle case, pillow end, and pincushion, and the motive of unit pattern, forming basic composition, is tree. Cotton is mainly used as basic cloth, and used various colors from single color to 8 colors, for dyed thread. There are steric type, quilting with wick, and plane type, quilting without wick. For pouch, it has even five pockets inside, and adjusted it, by rolling and folding once or twice. Second, their materials are identical, and motive of pattern is tree, as a result of comparing quilting with dyed thread with wrapper of Gangreung. The period, when the investigated quilting with dyed thread and relics of wrapper of Gangreung are produced, is from 19 century, and it is estimated that quilting with dyed thread is made in Gangreung in late 19 century, taken that they could use cotton and various colors, in those days. The quilting with dyed thread is the important cultural heritage of Gangreung which women in Gangreung had made. By virtue of social condition and cultural background in those days, they demonstrated their skills, by reflecting the aesthetic sense of women.
