The purpose of this study was to verify the longitudinal mediating effect of peer play interactions in the relationship between children’s usage of smart-media and early behavioral problems. Specifically, this study aimed to identify whether the usage of smart-media would influence the children’s early behavioral problems, through mediation of peer play interactions longitudinally. To test this, this study analyzed the data of 438 children, gathered from the Panel Study on Korean Children (2012-2014) by utilizing Autoregressive Cross-Lagged Model (ARCLM). The results were as follows. First, the prior usage of smart-media, peer play interactions, and early behavioral problems had significant effect on the usage of smart-media, peer play interactions, and early behavioral problems in the following next year, stably and continuously. Second, the prior usage of smart-media had a significant negative effect on the subsequent peer play interactions, which in turn contributed to posterior behavioral problems.
