본 연구는 상담자의 ‘관찰하는 자기’ 경험을 탐색하고 관찰하는 자기가 상담자에게 어떤 영향을 주는지를 심층적으로 이해하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해서 10년 이상 상담 경력을 가진 8명의 상담자를 연구 참여자로 선정하고, 관찰하는 자기 경험에 관한 포커스 그룹 인터뷰와 심층면담을 실시하여 자료를 수집하였으며 이를 지속적 비교분석방법에 따라 분석하였다. 자료 분석의 결과, 127개의 의미단위, 35개의 하위범주, 13개의 범주가 도출되었다. 특히 상담자의 관찰하는 자기 경험은 ‘관찰하는 자기가 시작되는 순간’, ‘나와의 관계에서 관찰하는 자기’, ‘상담 개입에서 관찰하는 자기’, ‘내담자와의 관계에서 관찰하는 자기’ 등과 같이 크게 4개의 영역으로 요약되었다. 상담자의 관찰하는 자기는 상담에서의 불편하고 혼란스러운 상황에서 시작되고 있었으며, 참여자들은 관찰하는 자기를 통해 자신의 감정, 느낌을 알아차리고 감정을 계속해서 주시하는 전략을 구사하며 내담자의 적개심이나 분노와 같은 강렬한 감정을 담아낼 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 상담자의 관찰하는 자기 경험과 그 의미에 대해 논의하고, 마지막으로 연구의 의의와 후속연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.This study was conducted to explore the experiences of observing Self of a counselor and to gain an in-depth understanding of how it affects a counselor. To this purpose, eight counselors with more than 10 years of counseling experience were selected as research participants and the data were collected by conducting in-depth interviews and in the focus group interview on observing Self-experience, and the data were analyzed by continuous comparative analysis. As the results, 127 semantics, 35 subcategories and 13 categories were derived. Especially, the counselor's experiences of observing Self were summarized into four areas such as; ‘The moment beginning observing Self’, ‘Observing Self in relationship with self’, ‘Observing Self in the counseling intervention’ and ‘Observing Self in the relationship with the clients’. The counselor's observing Self-experience was beginning in the uncomfortable and confusing circumstances, and the participants were able to contain the client’s intense feeling such as hostility or anger by utilizing a strategy with continuous awareness and observation of their emotions of feeling through their observing Self. Based on these results, we discussed the experiences of observing Self of counselor and its meaning, and finally presented the significance of the research and suggestions for the subsequent research.
