본 연구는 상담자로의 진로전환 경험과 그 경험의 본질적 의미를 살펴보고자 질적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 이전 전공과 직업이 상담과는 상이한 진로를 경험했다가 상담자로 진로를 전환한 16명의 사람들을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료를 Colaizzi의 현상학적 방법으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 6개의 상위주제와 21개의 하위주제, 그리고 48개의 의미단위가 도출되었다. 상위주제는 ‘이전 진로 경험’, ‘심리상담공부를 접함’, ‘상담자가 되기로 결심’, ‘상담 초기 경험’, ‘이전 진로의 영향력’, 그리고 ‘상담자로의 성장’의 내용이었다. 상담자로의 진로전환 경험은 참여자들에게 새로운 출발임과 동시에 이전 직업 경험의 연속성이 공존하는 것을 의미한다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 향후 상담자로의 진로전환과 관련하여 상담자의 진로지도 및 교육에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.
This study was implemented qualitatively to investigate the experience of career transition to counselor and its essential meaning. To that end, in-depth interview was conducted on the sixteen persons who made a career transition for counselor after engaging in another specialty and occupation. Collected data were analyzed by Colaizzi’s Comparison of Phenomenological Research, As a result, six major themes, 21 minor themes and 48 meaning units were derived. Major themes included ‘previous career’, ‘contact with study for psychological counseling’, ‘decision to become a counselor’, ‘experience at the beginning of career transition for counselor.’ ‘influence of previous career experience’, ‘gradual growth into counselor’. Experience of career transition for counselor had meaning of both a new start and beginning as entry and a successive and extensive meaning under the influence of previous job experience. Based on the results of the study, suggestions were made on the career guidance for counselor and research on their training in relation to career transition for counselor.
