본 연구는 내담자가 상담 과정에서 무엇을 가장 효과적인 상담 성과로 지각하는지 알아보고자 내담자의 상담 경험 과정을 분석하였다. 또한 상담자의 어떤 성격강점이 상담 과정 및 성과에 영향을 미치고 효과적으로 작용하는지 알아보고, 내담자의 강점 인식 경험을 탐색해봄으로써 상담에서 강점 인식이 갖는 의미 및 중요성, 상담 성과와의 연관성 등을 알아보았다. 총 10명의 내담자들을 대상으로 실시한 면담 내용을 해석학적 근거이론 방법으로 분석한 결과, 95개의 의미 단위, 30개의 하위 범주, 12개의 해석학적 주제를 도출하였다. 연구 결과 핵심범주는 ‘치료적 관계를 기반으로 한 자기이해와 수용, 문제 해결 과정을 통한 인식의 확장과 잠재력의 발견’이었다. 과정 분석 결과 상담자와 치료적 관계 형성, 상담 관계 촉진, 자기개방, 자기이해, 수용 및 안정, 인지 변화, 문제 해결 과정, 긍정적 자기 인식, 변화와 잠재력 발견의 성과 단계를 도출하였다. 참여자들이 지각한 효과적인 상담자의 성격강점은 친절성(n=9)의 빈도가 가장 높았고, 진실성(n=8), 목적의식(n=7), 통찰력(n=5), 열정·지도력·신중(n=4), 겸손·유머(n=3), 개방성·참을성·사랑·공정성·희망(n=2), 호기심·학구열·용서(n=1) 순으로 높은 빈도로 나타났다. 참여자들이 상담을 통해 새롭게 인식한 자기 성격강점은 열정(n=6)의 빈도가 가장 높았고, 감사(n=5), 개방성·자기조절력(n=4), 용기·참을성·진실성·희망(n=3), 호기심·학구열·통찰력·신중·유머(n=2), 창의성·사랑·친절·공정성·겸손·목적의식(n=1) 순으로 높은 빈도로 나타났다.This study analyzed the client’s counseling experience process to find out what was the most effective counseling outcomes perceived by the clients in the counseling process. In addition, the personality strengths of counselors influenced and worked effectively on the counseling process and performance, and the meaning and importance of strength awareness in counseling and the relationship with counseling outcomes were examined by exploring the client’s experience of strength recognition. As a result of analyzing the content of interviews conducted with a total of 10 clients using the hermeneutical evidence theory method, 95 semantic units, 30 sub-categories, and 12 hermeneutic themes were derived. As a result of the study, the key category was ‘expansion of recognition and discovery of potential through self-understanding and acceptance based on therapeutic relationships and problem solving processes.’ Formation of a therapeutic relationship with the counselor, facilitation of the counseling relationship, self-opening, self-understanding, acceptance and stability, cognitive change, problem-solving process, positive self-awareness, and outcome stages of change and potential discovery were derived as the results of the process analysis. The effective counselor’s personality strengths perceived by participants were the highest frequency in the following order; kindness (n=9), sincerity (n=8), purposefulness (n=7), insight (n=5), passion, leadership, and trust (n=4), humility and humor (n=3), openness, patience, love, fairness, hope (n=2), curiosity, academic enthusiasm, and forgiveness (n=1). The participants’ newly perceived personality strengths through counseling were the highest frequency in the following order; enthusiasm (n=6), appreciation (n=5), openness and self-regulation (n=4), courage, patience, truthfulness, and hope (n=3), curiosity, academic enthusiasm, insight, attention, humor (n=2), creativity, love, friendliness, fairness, humility, and objective consciousness (n=1).
