This study approached by the phenomenological research method to clarify the meaning of seeing in counseling experienced by the client. To this end, 7 clients who had been counseled more than 12 sessions and less than a year after participating in counseling were the participants, and the data through in-depth interviews and additional interviews via phone or e-mail were collected. In the research process, to more fundamentally understand the participants’ experience of “seeing” in the counseling the existing assumptions and premises were interpreted while stopping judgment. The phenomenon of ‘seeing’ in counseling experienced by participants were classified by three themes such as: ‘double seeing’, ‘one layer seeing’, and ‘solo seeing’. And seven categories were appeared such as: ‘seeing in advance’, ‘first seeing’, ‘direct seeing’, ‘seeing in person’, ‘seeing of seeing’, ‘leaving’, and ‘standing toward’. The participants were not passive beings in counseling. They made counseling their own through endless “seeing”. The participants brought ‘seeing in advance’ regarding the counseling and the counselor before joining the counseling. In addition, the participants newly defined problems, their existences, and the meaning of the problem by overlapping the counselor’s ‘seeing’ and their ‘own seeing’. In such a process, they experienced changing into “one layer seeing”, which focuses on life from “seeing in double” which was blurry by vomiting and giving meaning to their painful story. Eventually, the participants were able to “seeing alone” toward the direction their life is aimed for. The significance of this study is that it was possible to broaden the horizon of understanding of the clients who are the subject of counseling by interpreting the meaning of the “seeing” experience among the clients’ counseling experiences through their stories.
