Recently, main theme of Disarmament and Nonproliferation discussions is how to regulate conventional weapons with emerging technologies. The Republic of Korea needs to introduce the Legal Review of Weapons(hereinafter, “Weapons Review”), which examines whether conventional weapons have functions that are prohibited or restricted from the perspective of International Humanitarian Law(hereinafter, “IHL”). In this regard, this study presents how to carry out the Weapons Review during the acquisition process of Korea. I outlined how the IHL regulates conventional weapons, discussed the necessity of the Weapons Review, and then presented about practical implementation measures required to integrate with the Korean defense acquisition process.
