From 2009 to 2019, the “National Oceanic Culture Scholars Conference” was held 10 times. Among the presentations presented at this conference, 354 articles related to marine tourism were published. This number represents about 21% of all announcements.
In 2009, the entire paper was on tourism. Contents related to content began to be published in 2011, and in 2019, 20 tourism papers were published, compared to 44 in the content field, more than doubled.
By analyzing articles related to marine tourism, several trends can be identified. Overall, content related to content is increasing compared to general marine tourism papers. Tourism and content research centered on culture and themes are rapidly increasing in fragmentary topics such as ecology, landscape, and cultural properties. Interest in new tourism fields such as literary tourism, industrial tourism, and dark tourism is being reflected. Research on tourism activities for relaxation and health such as well-being and recreational healing is expanding.
For the development of marine tourism research, research and discovery of marine tourism resources, development of tourism industry programs suitable for regional characteristics, commercialization of connection with marine tourism, sustainable regulation and environmental protection, and convergent and integrated research of marine tourism are necessary.
In order to develop the Korean marine tourism industry, research is needed that can well combine the geographical environment, cultural characteristics, and various natural environments of the coastal region of Korea.
