This article observed the research results of the marine folklore sector of the Academic Congress of Korean Marine Culture over the past ten years since 2009 and presented future direction. In the current reality where the status of Korean folklore is faltering, results until now that have examined the various aspects of marine folklore while the Academic Congress of Korean Marine Culture has been held consistently over the past ten years are the main results of the Korean folklore community. The results of the past 10 years can be summed as ‘the enumeration of dynamic individuality’ and ‘the absence of common awareness and consilience’. The various results of diverse fields have stirred research in the diverse fields of marine folklore. However, research results enumerated without common awareness are sporadic results lacking focus. To overcome these limitations, harmful research directions must be derived based on the realities of marine culture. Thus, new directions were presented with 1) establishing a common theme, 2) raising interest in the folklore of the time, and 3) raising interest in new communities and ecology. In the future, we should think about the subject categories of marine folklore, the spatial and temporal range of target subjects when conducting surveys and research, and how we are to make accommodations regarding the life of the time. Also, the ultimate concern of these matters is that research must acknowledge that these people view the ocean as their home and observe their lives in detail.
