The purpose of the study was to theoretically explore the search for directions for future competency development focused on establishing self-identity in a writing course of liberal arts education. As a theoretical basis for the study, the core contents of future society's competencies, liberal arts education innovation, and self-identity were summarized. And based on the theoretical foundations, a lesson plan for ‘logical thinking and writing’ course was developed for the development of self-identity through reflective writing. The summary of the research results is as follows: Firstly, the necessity of liberal arts education for competency development required by the future society and the theoretical basis and the possibility of application in the field for establishing self-identity through reflective writing were presented. Secondly, a lesson plan for a ‘reflective writing’ related to literature activities was developed in liberal arts education. In conclusion, it is judged that the ‘reflective writing with literature activities’ course at universities can be used to develop core competencies required by future society based on establishing self-identity.
