The purpose of this paper is to reveal that the contextual sensibility is the essence of the church and deeply related the spirituality and biblical knowing(education) and therefore to insist that it should flow to the growing generation(youth) through education.
But by losing the contextual sensibility, the Korean churches have lost trust in the local community and many people are leaving the church. Gradually, unlike in the early days, the churches pursued only quantitative growth and was cut off from the region with a dualistic world-view in which faith and life were separated, indifferent to their pains. And the churches became a private group far from being contextually sensible. The church should be with the local community, and the place where Christians live becomes a place of worship, and it should play a public role that provides the foundation for building the kingdom of God and uniting the community. However, even if the church pursues the contextual sensibility, if the connection between generations is weak and cannot show and convey the essence and identity of the contextual sensibility to the growing generation, the contextual sensibility will end in one generation. This concern became true in the result of a survey of youth’s spiritual participation. It was found that the contextual of sensibility of the church and youth’s spiritual participation had little to do with it.
The spiritual participation in the personal level of growth through a relationship with God such as worship and prayer showed high scores, but low scores were shown in relations with others, including evangelism, and in the category of the Word of God. In particular, the mode with the lowest score was the study of the Word. Biblical education (knowing) is personal, communal, and participatory rather than building up knowledge in the head, and it’s true Bible education only when knowing become lives. Therefore the contextual sensibility, spirituality, and knowing are interrelated. However, since youths are passive and weak in studying the Word, it is natural that the scores related to the fields of life appear low.
The Contextual Sensibility of the church should flow into the growing generation. The educational ministry that can view and structure the entire church from an educational perspective is needed to answer this request. As the subject of education and the content of education, the church should actively participate in the development of the curriculum of the growing generation so that youth can experience the essence of Christianity.
