This study attempted to investigate the effects of mother’s COVID-19 stress and parental role stress on depression, and to verify the moderated mediating effect of social support that regulate these relationships. The subjects of this study were 314 mothers with children under the age of 13. Data were analyzed with SPSS PROCESS macro Model 4 and 7. The results of this study were as follows; First, the mother’s COVID-19 stress directly affected depression, that is, the higher the COVID-19 stress, the higher the depression. Second, the mother’s parental role stress mediated the relationship between COVID-19 stress and depression. Third, the social support perceived by mothers was found to moderate the relationship between COVID-19 stress and parental role stress, and it was confirmed that the higher the level of social support, the lower the parental role stress.
Finally, it was found that social support moderated the mediating effect of parental role stress in the relationship between mother’s COVID-19 stress and depression. This suggest that the higher the level of social support, the less the effect of COVID-19 stress on depression through parental role stress. The implications were discussed for further research and practice.
