Though drone has been suggested as an alternative to CCTV, there is a lack of a cumulative work on the perception of citizens towards surveillance drone. Based on the social acceptance model, the current study aims to gauge citizens’ perception of using drones for surveillance and monitoring. For the research purpose, we conduct focus group interview with 1 residents living in K district in Busan Metropolitan City. It turns out that the interviewees expected low benefits and high risks of the surveillance system, though they had high levels of institutional trust. This study analyzes the influential factors that are related to the level of acceptance, and suggests policy implications that can increase citizens’ perception towards new tools with innovative technologies for preventing crime.
