The purpose of this study is to examine and understand the experiences of counselors working at private counseling institutions regarding paid counseling practice. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with six counselors who have been conducting paid counseling at private counseling institutions for more than a year, and their paid counseling experiences were explored as a whole by applying Colaizzi (1978)’s phenomenological qualitative analysis method. As a result of the study, 5 categories, 11 groups of topics, and 32 topics were derived as follow. “experiences before the start of paid counseling” category consists of two groups of topics: “concerns about Professionalism” and “the reason got involved in paid counseling”. In the “concern about the paid counseling environment” category, two topics are grouped: “ambivalence for providing counselor information” and “experience in counseling fees.” In the “experience in the paid counseling process” category, there are three groups of topics: “paying too much attention to initial counseling,” “trying to maintain counseling,” and “pressure to maintain counseling,” and in the “experience related to client in paid counseling,” there are two groups of topics: “attitudes towards paid counseling clients perceived by counselors.” and “the client’s counseling satisfaction perceived by counselors.” Finally, in the category of “counselor’s attitude toward paid counseling,” two groups of topics were derived: “advantages in paid counseling” and “difficulties in paid counseling.” In this study, the meaning and implications of these results were discussed.
