This study examined the effects of perfectionistic self-presentation of alcohol addiction recoverers on social problem solving ability through self-criticism and experiential avoidance. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 248 alcohol addiction recoverers who had more than one month of no-drinking experience by using AA group, open ward of alcoholic hospitals, and integrated support center for addiction management in the metropolitan area. The main results of this study are as follows. First, self-criticism had a complete mediating effect on the relationship between perfectionistic self-presentation and social problem solving ability. Perfectionistic self-presentation was found to lower social problem solving ability through self-criticism. Second, the mediating effect of experiential avoidance was not significant in the relationship between perfectionistic self-presentation and social problem solving ability. Finally, self-criticism and experiential avoidance showed sequential double mediating effects in the relationship between perfectionistic self-presentation and social problem solving ability. This means that the perfectionistic self-presentation of alcohol addiction recoverers affected on social problem solving ability through self-criticism and experiential avoidance. The results of this study may contribute to lowering the risk factors of recurrence by improving social problem solving ability as the results of intervening self-criticism and experiential avoidance of alcohol addiction recoverers with high perfectionistic self-presentation tendency. Finally, the significance and limitations of this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
