Korean Christian unification education has been centered on churches and missionary organizations as part of the unification mission. Unification education is a mission in itself, and it is an important methodology to train future generations who will play the main role of the united Korea in the future. However, Christian unification education is significantly lacking in supply compared to demand, and the ongoing unification education is also experiencing confusion between direction and approach depending on theology, ideology, and denominative identity.
This paper extracted the main subjects of unification, unification mission, and peace theory by comparing the curriculum of the United Mission Academy, Unification Korea Mission Conference, and Christian Youth Unification Academy, which are representative public discussions on Christian unification. As a result of empirical analysis on how the political and social tendencies of these three programs are reflected in the curriculum from the perspective of holistic balance, the United Korea Missionary Conference was relatively balanced by topics, but the Unification Mission Academy and the Christian Youth Unification Academy should be reinforced, respectively.
The purpose of this study is to examine the unification view shared by Korean Christians through representative unification education that has been conducted for a long time by churches, mission groups, North Korean defectors, and Korean diaspora, thereby recognizing the need for a holistic balance among unification theory, unification mission theory, and peace theory. After sufficient discussion in the public sphere, the Korean church needs to develop a standard curriculum for biblical unification education in the areas of unification, mission, and peace, and develop and share Christian unification education contents for the next generation through joint ministry of Christian unification education experts and field practitioners.
