This study examined what counseling trainees experience when they voluntarily pause training for obtaining first-degree certificates such as burnout and various decision-making processes. Through this, it was found that the counseling trainees paused as their own decision and the decision experience and process had the following characteristics. First, the burden of various roles, physical exhaustion and lack of time, and psychological energy depletion were the contributing factors to the pause of certification acquisition training. Second, the process of pausing counseling training for certificate acquisition was as follows; the stage of choosing a major → acquiring a second-degree certificate → entering a doctorate, and the events that occurred in the stage of entering a doctorate directly affect the training. Third, the pause of counseling training for certification acquisition was experienced as a "decision" rather than rest or retreat. In other words, the pause was the trainee's decision in life in anticipation of fulfillment, and through this, the trainee felt as an existing subject. These results are significant in that they showed counseling training is a 'subjective area' that can be chosen through the counselor's active decision-making process. Finally, the results can be applied to propose guidelines for expanding understanding of the stage of counselor development and providing supervision.
