The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a greater inequality for migrant children as they have limited access to social well-being, medicine, education, while also having an increased risk of infection. However, few studies have explored the lived experiences of migrant children during the pandemic, making their voices even more silent than usual. Looking at Goryeoin migrant children in Gwangju, this study aims to reveal how they struggle, negotiate, and endure the ongoing pandemic. In particular, the study analyzes their sensory, emotional and embodied practices from the perspective of affective touch, shedding new light on dynamic intercorporeality and relationality, in which they maintain, suspend, or disconnect from daily relationships through place-making and absent affective presence. Accordingly, it reveals the emergent subjectivity of Goryeoin migrant children, who constantly face changing surroundings rather than simply waiting to be forced into the adult world. This study suggests a new perspective and methodology for research on the pandemic, migrant children, and space.
