This article discussed the selection and training process of counseling professionals, focusing on the controversy over t he m inimum r equirements o f q ualification t est. T o t his e nd, three professional selection and training models were compared and analyzed respectively, including the Licensed Professional Counselor of the US model (Model 1), Korean medical school and law school model (Model 2), and Korean certified public accountant model (Model 3). Considering the Korean reality where counseling majors and certificates have been unrestrained, we suggested that the public accountant model (Model 3), which provides practical training after granting certificates to a certain number of people, would be appropriate in the initial stage of the national certification system for counselors. Further, we also suggested that it would be worth considering to change the initial model to the Model 1 (graduate-level counseling program accreditation model) when the national certification system becomes settled to some extent.
