In modern warfare, air power is considered as an essential part to achieve the objective of the war in the shortest period and with minimal damage. In order to maximize air power, there need to be aviation facilities such as air traffic control systems to support and control the aircraft. Even though there are a large number of advanced aircrafts, if the controller is unable to perform air traffic control, the pilot will not be able to get maximum performance. Air traffic controller serves a vital role in maintaining safe flight and regulating efficient air traffic flow. This article provides an introduction to the air traffic control system, and respective roles of the controller, relevant facilities, and radar in an air base. Furthermore, it examines the current countermeasures against attacks on air bases and the solutions for enhancing the expertise of the controllers and easing their fatigue to ensure safe and uninterrupted air traffic control, which is necessary to optimize air power.
