Today, artificial intelligence (AI) influences every aspect of our daily lives more significantly than ever before. English education is no exception. AI provides many useful tools in teaching and learning English, such as AI chatbots, metaverse, virtual reality, augmented reality, and machine translation. These tools are changing the traditional methods of English education in significant ways. This paper attempts to review the literature on Korean–English machine translation. The literature under review was selected from the Korea Citation Index for the 2016–2022 period. A total of 37 papers were analyzed to determine (1) recent trends in the studies of Korean–English machine translation, (2) the kinds of linguistic aspects and texts of Korean (as a source language) that are studied, and (3) the current limitations and prospects of Korean–English machine translation. The main results were as follows: First, the most popular topic of research was the accuracy of translation machines. The two main translation machines (Google Translate and Naver Papago) showed similar translation accuracy. Second, as for linguistic aspects of Korean, nine aspects, including particles, passives, and punctuation marks, were studied; no particular aspect was the focus of the studies. Similarly, 11 types of Korean texts were studied, including proverbs, novels, and dramas, but no particular text type was the focus of the studies. Third, both current limitations and prospects were found in the studies of Korean–English machine translation. The current study concludes that with the development of AI, the translation machine will certainly be a very effective tool in English education.
