In this study, the relationship between childhood trauma experience and interpersonal relation problems in early adulthood examined the sequential mediating effect of early maladaptive schemas and self-system traumatization. To this end, childhood trauma (CTQ-SF), interpersonal relation problems (KIIP-SF), early maladaptive schemas (YSQ-SF), and self-system traumatization (TSSSS) scales were conducted on 295 people in early adulthood in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The main results of this study are as follows. First, childhood trauma showed a positive correlation in the early maladaptive schemas, self-system traumatization, and interpersonal relation problems. Second, there were significant differences according to gender in childhood trauma, self-system traumatization, and interpersonal relation problems, and women were higher than men. Third, regarding the relationship between childhood trauma and interpersonal relation problems, early maladaptive schemas and self-system traumatization showed significant mediating effects, respectively, and sequential mediating effects of early maladaptive schemas and self-system traumatization were also found to be significant. Through the results of this study, it was confirmed that childhood trauma experience activates the early maladaptive schemas, and the effect of self-system traumatization affects interpersonal relation problems in early adulthood. Finally, based on the results of this study, the significance and limitations of the study and suggestions for follow-up research were discussed.
