This article aims to initiate a conversation on promoting sustainable film literacy in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 10, and 11. These goals encompass ‘Quality Education’, ‘Reducing Inequality’, and ‘Inclusive Cities and Communities’, emphasizing the SDGs’ slogan: ‘Leave No One Behind’. Specifically, the article will examine arthouse cinemas and cinematheques as the focal points of film literacy education, with particular attention given to the middle-aged and older audiences. We also explore the significance and relevance of these two elements to the issues surrounding sustainable film literacy and contemplate whether arthouse cinemas attract audiences along a life cycle, as these venues increasingly draw aging viewers. Finally, we examine the concept of inclusive film education inherent in film literacy and the value of cultural democratization, discussing approaches to implementing sustainable film literacy through lifelong audience education.
