The purpose of this study is to derive the nature and meaning of how intermediate counselors form their professional identity through supervision experiences, so that the research on supervision experiences can provide basic data for supervision to promote the development of intermediate counselors. To conduct this study, 10 counselors with the Korean Counseling Association, Korean Counseling Psychology Association, and national qualification level 1 and 2 were interviewed using a questionnaire on the development of counselor identity through supervision experience. The collected data were analyzed according to Giorgi’s phenomenological research method, and the findings were as follows. 192 semantic units, 37 subcategories, and 8 superordinate categories were derived. The contents of the 8 superordinate categories are as follows; ‘Experiencing holistic growth as a counselor,’ ‘Deepening and expanding one’s perspective on client cases,’ ‘Learning through relationship and modeling with supervisors,’ and ‘Experiencing limitations and conflicts in supervision’, Increased expectations and demands from supervisors and the Society for future supervision’, Increased demands for supervision that is relevant to the counselor’s developmental level and field context’, Increased desire to grow as a counselor and supervisor rather than remain in the status quo’, and Increased ability to act ethically. Based on the findings, implications and limitations of this study and suggestions for further research were discussed.
