This study conducted Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) informed art therapy for adolescents with complex trauma, and tried to examine their experiences and the meanings of the experiences. And then through conceptual mapping, a visual framework was presented. The study participants were eight adolescents who expressed discomfort in threatening interpersonal relationships and experienced difficulties in emotional regulation, considered symptoms of complex trauma. A total of 16 sessions of art therapy programs, lasting 60 minutes each, were conducted weekly. Using Multi-Dimensional Scaling(MDS) and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis(HCA) based on similar central statements classified by the participants, the conceptual framework was analyzed. Finally, six clusters were identified: ‘Work and Emotional Experience,’ ‘Residence of Core Emotions,’ ‘Confrontation with Core Beliefs,’ ‘Discovery of Resources and desire,’ ‘Insight and Transformation,’ and ‘Positive Emotional Change.’ Two dimensions, ‘Explicit-Implicit’ and ‘Relaxation-Integration,’ were confirmed. In terms of cluster importance, they ranked as follows: ‘Positive Emotional Change,’ ‘Discovery of Resources and Desires,’ ‘Work and Emotional Experience,’ ‘Insight and Transformation,’ ‘Residence of Core Emotions,’ and ‘Confrontation with Core Beliefs.’ This study is significant in addressing the process through which adolescents with complex trauma recognize and understand their self through the experience of AEDP informed art therapy, highlighting stages of positive transformation. AEDP informed art therapy, which emphasizes the experiences and emotional changes in the counseling process, is expected to contribute as practical intervention material for treating complex trauma.
