With the construction of a bridge, Korea‘s island areas are changing from a space of isolation and disconnection to a space of flow and connection recently. This study aims to investigate the socio-spatial changes in Jaeun-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, an island area, due to the construction of the bridge since the 2000s. The results of the study are as follows. First, the rate of population decline in Jaeun-myeon decreased after the construction of the Cheonsa Bridge due to the positive bridge effect. Second, the construction of the bridge caused the decline of shipping traffic and the growth of land traffic. Third, Jaeun-myeon’s real estate value fluctuated significantly over three periods: the confirmation of bridge’s construction, the announcement of resort development plan, and the bridge’s opening. Fourth, regarding the daily lives of residents, Jaeun-myeon experienced changes in three dimensions: tourism, distribution and logistics environment, wholesale and retail business, and living area.
