This study delves into the multifaceted activities of Russian Orthodox missionaries in 17th-century China, coupled with an exposition on the Russian translation of "Wanwu-zhenyuan(萬物眞原)." The primary aim is to elucidate the scholarly value of this text within the context of East-West intellectual exchanges. The pursuits of the Russian Orthodox Missionary Society in Beijing transcended conventional missionary objectives, to assume a pivotal role in diverse domains, including cultural exchange and diplomatic engagements with China. An integral facet of their mission lay in the translation of literary works. Noteworthy among these is the Russian rendition of Aleni's "Wanwu-zhenyuan(The True Origin of All Things)," a seminal work in China. Translated by an Orthodox student, it still stands as the sole extant Western translation. Consequently, this paper scrutinizes the activities of the Russian Orthodox Missionary Society in Beijing, concentrating specifically on the Russian translation of "Истинный источник всех тварей или Книга о истинном источнике" and expounding upon its content and academic significance thereby. This paper aspires to enhance our understanding of the intricate dynamics underpinning cultural and religious exchanges between China, Russia, and by extension, Korea. Furthermore, it provides a pioneering investigation of this rare source material, delving into Agafonov's theological intentions behind the translation of this pivotal work.
