The core of Lee O-young’s mythology is well presented in The Spiritual Homeland of the Koreans(1968). Although Lee O-young is not a full-fledged mythologist, the discussion in this book has significant implications for discussions of folktale theory including myths, folktale culture theory, and mythological culture theory. This is why it is safe to view this book as a treatise on mythology. In particular, not only the analysis of the Dangun myth itself, but also the development of diachronic cultural theory based on it serves as a good example for proving the cultural usefulness of myths and tales. For this purpose, Lee O-young uses structuralist and cultural psychological analysis methods. Among these, his structuralist analysis method, which focuses on the order and fusion of binary opposition concepts, suggests the possibility of developing it into an analysis framework for myths and tales. Lee O-young focused on the combination and fusion of homogeneous elements, which also suggests a perspective on how to view the combination of heterogeneous elements. In other words, when disparate things come together, it makes us think of the possibility of comparative analysis or independent analysis of ‘cultures that remain two by opposing each other’ versus ‘cultures that finally become one by combining with each other’. Even if it is the same object, as it passes through the flow of culture, in some cases the fusion of homogeneous elements may be recognized as important, and in other cases, the fusion or confrontation of heterogeneous elements may be recognized as important. Since myths and tales are particularly complex and cumulative, it is difficult to explain the layers of thought with a single logic, which makes us consider these implications even more. In this article, possible examples were presented using chickens and monkeys. Rather than a thesis-style writing that emphasizes strict logic and evidence, this study examined the possibility of a more free ‘Lee O-young-style cultural writing.’ This kind of writing can be a driving force that enables 'thinking about culture and creating culture' by examining our myths, tales, and surrounding materials in the realm of the public rather than confining them to the realm of the relevant academic field.
