This study investigated the process and characteristics of the Japanese Jodongjong's missionary work on the Korean Peninsula in a Japanese colonial era.
There have been some studies related to this so far, but I wanted to understand the whole situation more specifically through the current status of missionary work. Finally, it comes down to the reason why the Jodongjong's missionary work on the Korean Peninsula, which was active on the Korean Peninsula, completely disappeared after Japan's defeat. It is well known that this is also closely related to Japan's colonial policy. First, the process of missionary work on the Korean Peninsula by Jodongjong focused on the Japaneseization of Korean Buddhism, the expansion of temples and missionaries, and the policy of the denomination, and the temporal development stage was synthesized based on various research results. The relationship between Jodongjong and political power and his strategy for propagation was then highlighted. The relationship between Jodongjong and the Russo-Japanese Wa r , the Sino-Japanese Wa r , the activities of the Takeda Hashi, the the Japanese Government General of Korea's religious policy, and the Simjeon Development Movement was revealed in depth. It can be seen that Jodongjong expanded his doctrine by agreeing with the Japanese Government General of Korea's policies while cooperating with various sides to maintain close relations with the the Japanese Government General of Korea. Through this process analysis, we tried to identify the characteristics of Jodongjong's propagation on the Korean Peninsula. First, due to the resurgence of the modern emperor system, the position and propagation of the Jo Jong in Japan were inevitably limited. As a result, overseas propagation, especially on the Korean Peninsula, became an important policy. Second, Japanese Buddhism was protected by the Korean Buddhist community, which was treated contemptuously during the Joseon Dynasty. Third, it was aimed at Buddhistizing Japan through the expansion of civilian propaganda labor while pandering to state forces. As a result, it can be seen that the Japanese Jodongjong's propagation on the Korean Peninsula had a very planned and well- targeted line.
