본 연구는 노년기 인지기능 변화의 이질성과 다양성에 주목하여, 한국 노인의 인지기능 변화궤적의 유형과 이의 관련 영향 요인들을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 고령화연구패널자료의 2006년(1차)부터 2018년(7차)까지 총 7차년도의 12년간 자료를 활용하여 1,550명을 대상으로 성장혼합모형(GMM)과 다항로지스틱 회귀분석 모델을 적용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 분석결과들은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 노인의 인지기능은 시간이 경과함에 따라 서서히 인지기능이 저하되는 양상이 보였지만 인지기능 변화궤적 유형을 분석한 결과에서는 ‘고기능-유지형’, ‘고기능-급감소형’, ‘중기능-감소형’, ‘저기능-유지형’ 등 4가지 유형으로 분석되어 한국 노인의 인지기능 변화의 이질성과 다양성이 확인되었다. 둘째, 한국 노인의 인지기능 변화궤적 유형의 결정 요인을 분석한 결과에서는 인구학적 특성, 사회경제적 지위, 건강상태, 사회활동 등이 주요하게 영향을 미치고 있었지만, 인지기능 변화궤적 유형별 관련 요인들은 상이함이 확인되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 한국 노인들의 인지기능 변화 양상이 매우 이질적이고 다양하다는 점에서 이를 반영한 정책적, 실천적 개입이 필요함을 시사해주고 있다.
