초록보기

 식품의 보존료로서 천연식물자원의 사용에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이러한 이유에서 본 연구에서는 폐렴, 결핵 등의 감염성 질환에 약리학적인 활성을 가지고 있는 다양한 해외식물추출물을 가지고 식품에서 발견되는 부패 및 병원성 미생물 성장에 대한 저해효과를 조사하였다. 300개의 해외식물추출물의 항균활성은 agar well diffusion method 와 agar disc diffusion method를 이용하여 평가하였고, 이중에 세 종류의 그람양성 균주와 네 종류의 그람음성 균주에 대한 높은 항균활성을 가지는 네가지 식물(예덕나무; Alchornea trewioides 와 배롱나무; Lagerstroomia floribunda 와 노관초; Erodium stephanianum 와 마테; Ilex umbellulata)을 물, 에탄올, 메탄올의 세가지 다른 용매로 추출하여 식품에서 발견되는 부패 및 병원성 미생물에 대한 항균활성을 평가하였다. 앞선 추출용매 별 항균효과 실험 결과에서 가장 높은 항균효과를 보였던 예덕나무 (A. trewioides) 와 노관초 (E.stephanianum) 에탄올추출물을 가지고 여섯 종류의 그람양성 균주와 일곱종류의 그람음섬 균주에 대한 최소저해농도를 측정하는 실험을 했다. 예덕나무 (A. trewioides)은 젖산균을 제외한 실험에 사용된 모든 미생물에서 낮은 농도에서 높은 항균 효과를 보이고 있었고 노관초 (E. stephanianum) 또한 젖산균에서는 항균 효과를 전혀 보이지 않았지만 E.coli O157:H7, P.aeruginosa, S. aureus, B. cereus의 4가지 미생물에 대해 낮은 농도에서 충분한 억제효과를 보여줬다. 또한 두 식물추출물 모두 V. parehaemolyticus 와 A. aceti에서 각각 1.5625 와 3.125 ppm (예덕나무, A. trewioides) 과 3.125 와 6.25 ppm (노관초, E. stephanianum)의 낮은 농도에서의 가장 높은 저해효과를 보여줬다. 앞선 실험 결과에서 Acetobacter aceti에 대한 가장 높은 항균효과를 보였던 예덕나무 (A. trewioides) 와 노관초 (E. stephanianum) 에탄올추출물을 가지고 time-kill 방법을 통해 식물 추출물과 nisin의 결합한 항균활성을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 노관초 (E. stephanianum) 추출물과 nisin과의 결합에 따른 미생물의 성장저해 효과는 식물추출물만을 사용했을때 보다 nisin을 함께 사용했을 때 더 좋은 결과를 보여줬다. 따라서 해외식물추출물들은 많은 부과효과를 가지고 있어 상업적으로 이용되고 있는 합성 항생제를 대체할 수 있는 유용한 천연항생제로 사용될 수 있는 잠재력을 가지고 있다.
