교육부는 2005년 ‘Study Korea Project’를 통해 국제학생 유치를 위한 정책을 본격적으로 추진하기 시작하였고 이러한 노력의 결과로 인해 국내로 유입된 유학생의 수는 증가하였으나 이러한 양적인 증가를 지원할 수 있는 질적인 인프라 구축 노력 및 국제학생들의 질적인 관리 부분과 관련된 부분에서의 한계점이 나타나기 시작하였다. 교육국제화역량 인증제(IEQAS: International Education Quality Assurance System)는 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위해 2012년 시범사업이후 2013년부터 본격적으로 시작된 제도이며 본 연구는 교육국제화역량 인증제를 실시하고 있는 대학에 재학 중인 국제학생을 대상으로 한 인터뷰를 통해 교육국제화역량 인증제가 실제 한국에 유학 중인 유학생들에게 미치는 영향에 대해 살펴보고 그를 바탕으로 시사점을 도출하는 데 그 목적이 있다.
The Ministry of Education(MOE) has initiated a project named ‘Study Korea Project’ that aims at increasing recruitment efforts of international students. This study has resulted in an increase in the number of international students enrolled. While this has been positive, there has been controversy around the resource allocation to support and manage incoming international students, specifically around the existing infrastructure. To solve these challenges, the International Education Quality Assurance System(IEQAS) has focused on improving overall quality conditions for education. IEQAS started as a pilot study in 2012 and has adopted as a regular project since 2013. The main purpose of this study is to interview international students who study in a university where IEQAS has been used and examine the influence of IEQAS on international students. This paper will draw some implications bsed on the results of the interview.
