 For understanding about Nam June Paik, the originator of video art, I studied at the meaning, the category, the trend of thought and the formation process of video art, and classified it, depending on contents, form, type and characteristic, in this paper.

Video art is a genre that finds the new art form for 21th century, and a expression of experimentalism that we should choose for seeing the upcoming future as a positive and creative aim.

I want this paper to get the meaning as raising peculiar function and cultural value of Nam June Paik's video art for security of self-reliance and base of video art under control of image cultures, like televisions and movies.

Nam June Paik's studies about present and future trends of societies and arts, and his attitude as a artist who has a vision about the future, mean a fundamental mind that the next art has to get.

This point can be defined as a introduction about a way of the next art.
