This study intends to investigate how the basic color words of Korean are distributed in the idiomatic expression of Korean and what meaning they have. For this objective, the scope of idiomatic expression is established and the general features described by 5 colors of color words of Korean are arranged in the first place. After analyzing the form of color words by extracting idiomatic expression that describes color words, the meaning of color words in the idiomatic expression was investigated.

In the idiomatic expression, the form of color words of Korean is divided into 2 forms, i.e., the system of color words in own language '검다, 희다, 붉다, 푸르다, 누르다' and the system of '��/�j', '까맣다, 하얗다, 빨갛다, 파랗다, 노랗다'. In Korean, there are not many idiomatic expressions that describe color words and the form of color words in the idiomatic expression is very limited. It is peculiar that the color words of Korean are described in the idiomatic expression in spite of their largest feature - diverse and complex form. Analyzing the meaning of color words in the idiomatic expression, it is found that the implied meaning varies, depending on the form of color words. The common feature of color words described in the idiomatic expression of Korean is as follows.

1. The negative attributes exist in the system of own language and the attributes of specific color exist in the form of color words in '��/�j' system.

2. The prefix, '새/시' and the replacement of consonant and vowel emphasize the attributes of color. Further, they are transmitted to the negative attributes assumed by color words in the system of own language.

Since the meaning of color words exclude positive attributes and take negative attributes only, depending on the form, it represents the consciousness of Korean on the color.

In the special linguistic environment of Korean, idiomatic expression, the clear definition of form and meaning of color words will help learn color words correctly and understand the linguistic and cultural property of Korea.
