The purpose of the thesis is to clarify the impact of innovation orientation on technological and management performance among family business enterprises in Korea. In detail, there are three purposes of the research; to analyze the relationship between innovation orientation such as technological innovation basis cons-truction and technological innovation activities and technological; to analyze the technological achievement and management perfor-mance including sales and product comparativeness; to analyze the control effect of the feature of family business enterprise.

The questioning survey was conducted with family business enterprises for proof study, and the analysis results can be explain -ed as below.

For most of all, this research is meaningful in a sense that is has analyzed how technological innovation orientation effects on technology and performance management. Commonly, empirical studies on technological innovation orientation show that most of them have positive effects on technology and management. Therefore, the research is significant since it has applied the typical cause and effect relationship to more special environment such as family business enterprises.

Secondly, feature of family business enterprise has shown that it has control effect on the relationship between technological innovation orientation and technology, suggesting that for higher performance, advantages of family business enterprise such as trust between members, sustainable management, level of participa -tion are more needed.

Third, technological innovation basis construction of innovation orientation has shown that it has had meaningful effect on excel -lence of technology and performance concentration, and process innovation and service innovation of technological innovation activities also have shown that they have had meaningful effect on technological performance. Most of the prior studies have shown that every elements of technological innovation orientation has had effects on the performance while this study has concluded that only some of elements does have effects, meaning that current approach has rather ineffective aspect. Therefore, the study indicates many things over strategies are needed to improve achievements and performances.

Lastly, technological performance has shown that it has meaningful effect on sales and product competitiveness which belong to management performance. Accordingly, it can be interpreted as meaningful if comparative study which analyze the different levels of effect on how technological innovation orientation and technological performance affects on various management index in the future, are conducted while harnessing developed various management performance index, the study will be more meaningful and helpful in various ways.

Still, there are some limitations of the study against these results.

First of all, there is a problem of how to define the ‘amily business enterprises’ Family business enterprises are differently defined according to scholars and researches, giving limitation to the universal definition of the term.

Secondly, unlike other prior studies, this study indicates that not all elements of technological innovation orientation have had positive effects on technological performance. Process innovation and technological concentration have had positive effects on technological innovation basis construction and only process innovation and service innovation in technological innovation activities have had positive effect on technological innovation activities. This also means that more in-depth research is needed in the future.
