This study considered the process of creating and giving meanings in poems of Jiyong Jeong by using cognitive poetic methodology. It studied his consciousness for the era and meaning of the objects through the cognitive poetic aspect. Based on this, it tried to find out how his poets communicated with the contemporary time and what kinds of emotions were comprised through his world view and consciousness about space time.

In chapter 2, metaphor and iconography of 'sea' and 'home town' were interpreted. Meaning structure of 'sea' was considered by being connected to the sea related poems, mainly concentrated on 'Sea9.' This poem used basic conceptual metaphors such as 'nature is human,' 'accident is action' and 'emotion is material.' These metaphors in complementary relations form a complex space and expand their images from physical actions to emotional level.

His process of recognizing his hometown initiated in Japan when he realized what the absence of hometown meant. The sense of loss and loneliness stimulated his imagination to restore the originality of 'hometown.'

In the chapter 3, the way he realized the time and speed of life was dealt concentrated on poems about mountains and the modem experiences. An aged monk and Jangsoo Mountain in 'Mt.Jangsoo 1' were described metaphorically in order to show similarity of family. It is found in expressions such as "nature is human' and 'human is nature.' The two elements are combined and show an image of silence which indicates unification of human and nature.

Experiencing the modem culture and materials, he felt strangeness. Use of 'way schema' embodied liquidity of city and adrift existence. He visualized the strange object to animalistic image to describe modem experience in 'Train,' therefore highlighting the speed and movement of the train.

In chapter 4, his way to recognize properties of twofold life in expressions such as 'life and death,' and 'creation and destruction' was studied through material and natural phenomena. 'Glass window' in his poems bears two different meanings - 'open' and 'close.' Transparency of the window has twofold characteristics to connect and to disconnect the internal and external worlds. That is to say, the window isolates the writer from his longing objects but at the same time enables him to communicate with stars and birds which appear through the window itself.

In chapter 5, his way to recognize the world and the world he tried to realize in his religious poems and children's poems were described. In his religious poems, two main conceptual metaphors, which are 'life is travel' and 'life and death are connected,' contribute to not only microscopic but also macroscopic structures of the text.

The most noticeable sentiment in his young life is the sense of 'longing,' which is induced from the absence of mother in his young ages. The longing is expressed in the forms of 'sadness,' 'crying,' and 'scariness.' Meantime, he also described the innocence of children by brining fairy tale imagination into nature like diverse animal and plants as well as traditional experience.

He embodied sensuous impression of objects using basic conceptual metaphors like 'nature is human' and 'emotion is truth.' Feelings of thrill and expectation about stepping toward a new open world were translated into dynamism and demystification of 'sea' while duplicity of 'glass' marked twofold emotion of creation and destruction.

He expressed cognition and world view about time space through objects. 'Train' represents sensuous cognition for modem experience and the reality of the time filled with sadness and maladjustment. On the contrary, mountain expresses oriental view of the world and reclusive emotion. Sensuous cognition attitude is shown in children's poems as well, which embody objects and conventions of youth experience with fairy tale like imagination.

In addition, he threw ontological questions and thoughts about life through image diagram such as 'way schema,' 'container schema' along with basic conceptual metaphors like 'life is travel' and 'life and death are connected.' The phrase 'life is travel' is connected to the metaphor of 'life is pain,' which indicates limit and pain of life while expanding the life to afterlife with religious faith at the same time.

For the last, he contemplated the images through figure related contents. The figure related contents such as blank with a long break, spacing and use of similar notes strengthen the poetic sense and text of poems as well as elevate its completeness and esthetics.
