초록보기

This study was to identify the effects of Hob-Gog(LI4), Chung-Wan(CV12) and Chok-samni (ST36) acupressure treatment on recovery of bowel movement and abdominal discomfort after colonoscopy.

A nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design was used in this study. The data were collected from August 1. 2010 to February 28. 2011. The subjects were 60 patients, 30 for the experimental group and

30 for the control group, who were admitted at K Hospital, Gastrointestinal unit and were treated for each 3 minutes with three points acupressure. The three points acupressure is that Hob-Gog(LI4), Chung-Wan(CV12) and Chok-samni(ST36) acupressure is for the experimental group and the first metacarpal bone, body of sternum, and fibula head acupressure is for the control group.

As for the procedure, a preliminary research on the subjects was conducted for the general characteristics, abdominal circumference, and VAS for the abdominal discomfort before the acupressure. After the preliminary research, in order to evaluate the effects of Hob-Gog(LI4), Chung-Wan(CV12) and Chok-samni(ST36) acupressure, the recovery of bowel sound, passing gas, defecation, abdominal circumference, and VAS for the abdominal discomfort were measured 20 and 40 minutes after the acupressure.

The collected data were analyzed statistically using SPSS 18.0 Program. The general characteristics were processed using frequency and percentage. The homogeneity between the experimental group and the control group was verified using χ²-test and t-test. Two way repeated ANOVA was used for hypothesis verification. In case there were correlations in time-point and groups, they were analysed using Pairwise Comparison after controlling the correlation.

The result of this study are as followings:

1. The time when bowel sounds were heard was statistically significant shorter in the experimental group compared to the control group.

2. The time of gas passing was not statistically significant shorter in the experimental group compared to the control group.

3. The time of defecation was not statistically significant shorter in the experimental group compared to the control group.

4. The abdominal circumference was statistically significant less in the experimental group compared to the control group.

5. The VAS for the abdominal discomfort was statistically significant less in the experimental group compared to the control group.

As observed above, Hob-Gog(LI4), Chung-Wan(CV12) and Chok-samni(ST36) acupressure for each 3 minutes was effective in shortening the time until bowel sounds were heard and decreasing the abdominal circumference and VAS for the abdominal discomfort after colonoscopy. Therefore the acupressure could be recommended as an effective nursing intervention for increasing bowel movement and relieving abdominal discomfort.
