 The purpose of the research is to examine what the structure and operation of Lee Uibang(李義方, ?~1174) regime who was the first leader of military administration period. Lee Uibang is considered to play a major role in the success of the insurrection arisen by military called Musin-ran and have great influence on the politics of Koryo. This research took a method of analysing historical records such as 『Koryosa(高麗史)』·『Koryosa choryo(高麗史節要)』 and previous studies as needed.

This study covers the contents below. Firstly, it is necessary to briefly examine the contexts before Musin-ran, particularly the solid foundation of support towards Lee Uibang who successfully took the power despite the fact that he was a inferior military official. This will cover his family tree and position in Koryo military hierarchy.

Secondly, this study investigates the process of the Musin-ran and Lee Uibang's role. As mentioned above, Lee Uibang played a critical role in the Musin-ran success as the first leader which required removing his rivals and making alliance. Therefore, how he built his power needs to be tracked down.

For the last, this study figures out the structure and significance of the Lee Uibang regime. Lee Uibang was a military leader with great influence, but failed to monopolize the power, due to the counter power from superior military officials. This means that Lee Uibang inevitably had to work with them to run the regime. Therefore, it is necessary to examine how the regime was run in order to understand both its implication and limitation.

It is unfortunate that Lee Uibang regime has not been sufficiently studied due to the lack of historical documents. When considering the great impact of Lee Uibang on Musin-ran that followed by 100 years of Musin era in Koryo, however, it would not be an exaggeration to say more studies on him and his period are demanded. In this context, this research is expected to contribute to better understanding on the Lee Uibang regime.
