 컴퓨터 기술과 인공지능(AI)의 등장은 기업 운영 방식을 크게 변화시켰고, 이러한 신기술은 전통적으로 인간이 수행하던 다양한 업무를 대신 수행하게 되었다. 기술의 보급과 그것이 가져오는 명백한 이점에도 불구하고, 인간이 해오던 일을 대체하는 인공지능에 대해 소비자들이 어떻게 받아들이는지에 대한 연구는 상대적으로 미비하다. 본 논문은 고객서비스, 자동화 중고 거래, 알고리즘 가격 책정 등 다양한 기술적 맥락에서 인공지능을 접했을 때 소비자의 소비 전·후 인식 및 소비자의 의사결정을 이해하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있다. 첫번째 에세이에서는 소비자들이 서비스 로봇이 수행하는 작업에 대한 통제 능력이 낮다고 인식하기 때문에, 서비스가 만족스럽지 못한 경우, 인간에 의해 같은 서비스가 수행 될 때에 비하여 서비스 로봇에 대한 책임을 덜 부과한다는 것을 입증했다. 대신, 소비자들은 서비스 로봇이 실패한 서비스를 제공했을 때 서비스를 제공하는 회사에 더 많은 책임을 돌렸다. 두번째 에세이에서, 최후통첩 게임을 통해 소비자들이 사람 상대자에 비해 인공지능 상대에게 더 작은 돈을 할당한다는 것을 보여주었고, 이는 협상 과정에 있어 사람 대상자에 비해 소비자들은 인공지능에 대한 다른 태도를 보이는 것을 나타낸다. 더 나아가 본 연구에서는 인공지능에 대한 이러한 소비자의 태도를 독재자 게임을 통해 전략적 행동과 이타심에 대해 구분하고자 하였다. 세번째 에세이에서는, 소비자들이 인공지능 딜러가 인간 딜러보다 더 좁은 가격 분산을 제공한다고 믿는다는 것을 보여주었다. 소비자들은 인공지능 딜러가 제시하는 가격이 인간 딜러가 제공하는 가격에 비해 제시된 가격 간 더 큰 유사성과 더 적은 가격 변동과 최고 및 최저 보상 가격 사이의 좁은 범위를 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 인식은 실용적인 제품과 쾌락적인 제품을 포함한 다양한 제품에 걸쳐 일반화되었다. 이러한 믿음은 인공지능 딜러가 잠재적으로 제공하는 더 좁은 가격 분산에서 더 나은 거래를 기대하는 협상 자기 효율성이 낮은 소비자를 대상으로 활용할 수 있다. 이 세 개의 에세이는 인공지능 구현이 소비자의 인식과 결정에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 이해하는 데 있어 마케팅 연구와 실무자에게 실질적 기여를 할 것이다.
