BIBLIOGRAPHY 104
World Health Organization (WHO) notes that there are over 540 million people in the world who suffer from mental disorder, while the recurrence rate in patients with mental disorder is 50 to 92 percent. Currently around one in five, or 20% of Indonesia's population, experience some form of mental disorder. The island of Bali is one of approximately 17,000 islands in Indonesia. According to data published by the Health Research and Development Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Kesehatan Republik Indonesia), Bali is listed in the top four after Jogjakarta, Aceh and South Sulawesi for the number of people with severe mental disorder in Indonesia. Of the 4 million Balinese, as much as 0.23 percent are people with mental disorder. This raises the question, what can Church Leaders in Bali do to better help their congregation members to both have an understanding of, and adopt a compassionate approach towards those in their community who suffer from mental disorder? The lyrics of a church song from Kidung Jemaat 257 translation to Congregational Song 257 says: “The Church is not the building, nor is it the tower; open the door, look inside, the Church is the person.” The Church is a collection of people who believe in Christ Jesus. However, in reality not all people have characters like Christ Jesus. So, they may become stumbling block for others. As a Christian believer, we need to helping, caring, and loving those who need help and in sufferings, especially people in Bali. We need to understand what the Bible says about mental disorder, and from that, we can make a class to help people with mental disorder and their family with love, so that they can keep strong in faith in Christ Jesus forever.
Mental illness can strike anyone just like colds, Covid-19 or other illness. Example if you are sick, of course you need to self-isolate and rest. However, if you have recovered, you can return to your activities to do your job. It is the same with people who suffer from cancer, even though it is not a contagious disease, they also need rest so that their body condition does not deteriorate. Likewise, people who are mentally ill need to rest if their illness recurs so that their condition does not get worse.
This study explores how church leaders can have sensitivity from God in order to fight for justice and take appropriate action, namely working with the government, medical teams, and psychiatrists to provide education to their church members in order to eliminate the stigma of discrimination and the marginalization of those who suffer from mental disorders, in turn leading to the salvation of their soul, as each soul is very valuable in God's eyes.
This study further encourages church leaders to provide various mental health facilities and associated infrastructure appropriate for the needs of people with mental disorders, and to focus more on family-centered spiritual services, as the home is a very important place to strengthen faith and solidarity in order to be a witness for Christ in this world.*표시는 필수 입력사항입니다.
