 This paper examines the Holy Spirit spoken of in the Old Testament, the Synoptic Gospels, and Paul, and then examines texts related to the Holy Spirit in each chapter of the Gospel of John to reveal the role of the Holy Spirit that the author John was talking about.

The Holy Spirit that the author John speaks of was to enable people to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He also revealed that he will receive eternal life through Jesus Christ. It also reveals the background, necessity, and role of the Comforter's coming into this world. Finally, in the Gospel of John, it was revealed what Jesus Christ meant when he told his disciples to 'receive the Holy Spirit' after his resurrection.
