Abstract 77

초록보기

This study aims to explore the characteristics of media acting in contemporary genre films and to examine, in depth, the differences in acting approaches according to film genres. As cinema has evolved beyond mere entertainment to function as a medium for social and philosophical reflection, acting has likewise come to demand refined strategies tailored to the grammar and aesthetics of each genre. This paper investigates how elements such as emotional expression, physical movement, dialogue rhythm, and gaze direction vary across genres including action, melodrama, thriller, horror, comedy, science fiction, and fantasy, through theoretical discourse and case analysis.

Drawing upon acting theories by Stanislavski, Michael Caine, Phillip Zarrilli, Eugenio Barba, and others, this study analyzes the structural distinctions between stage acting and media performance, and examines the genre-specific application of acting techniques. In particular, the rise of digital technologies-such as motion capture and volumetric capture-has introduced new challenges regarding the actor’s physicality and modes of emotional expression.

The analysis reveals that the grammar of each genre significantly influences the modulation of emotion, performance density, and timing, offering practical insights for acting education and film production. By shedding light on the dynamic structure of performance in genre films, this study expands the theoretical horizon of acting studies and film studies, and contributes to redefining the actor’s role in an evolving media environment. It also suggests the need for further research into changes in performance techniques within digital platforms such as OTT services and web dramas.
