본 연구에서는 유아교육기관의 전반적인 물리적 환경의 질이 유아의 실내 및 실외 놀이행동에 미치는 영향을 인지 사회적 놀이유형별로 살펴보았다. 첫째, 물리적 환경의 질이 높은 유치원에서의 유아의 실내·외 놀이유형을 알아본 결과, 유아들은 실내의 경우 상상-병행놀이를, 실외에서는 구성-병행놀이를 가장 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 물리적 환경의 질이 낮은 유치원에서 유아들은 실내에서는 구성-집단놀이에, 실외에서는 구성-병행놀이에 가장 많이 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 물리적 환경의 질적 수준에 따른 유아의 실내·외 놀이유형의 차이를 살펴본 결과, 실내의 경우 상상-병행놀이와 상상-집단놀이가 물리적 환경의 수준이 높은 유치원에서 더 많이 나타난 반면, 기능-병행놀이의 경우에는 물리적 환경이 낮은 기관에서 더 많이 나타났다. 실외의 경우에는, 물리적 환경의 수준이 높은 유치원에서 상상-병행놀이와 상상-집단놀이가 더 많이 나타난 반면, 기능-혼자놀이와 기능-병행놀이는 물리적 환경이 낮은 기관에서 더 많이 나타났다.
