본 연구는 경계선 지적 기능 아동들의 인지, 학습, 행동, 정서적 특성과 연령과 지능의 우세요인에 따른 각 특성들의 차이를 살펴보았다. 연구 대상은 타 장애가 동반되지 않은 학령전기 6세부터 6학년까지의 경계선 지적 기능 아동 85명이었다. 연구 결과 첫째, 경계선 지적 기능 아동들은 모든 인지 영역에서 평균 이하의 낮은 기능과 최하위 수준의 학습 성취도 특히 정보처리, 독해력, 셈하기와 같은 사고력 영역에서 더 낮은 수행을 보였다. 행동, 정서면에서는 사회적 미성숙, 집중 부족과 소외감이 주된 문제로 나타났다. 둘째, 연령에 따른 차이 분석에서는 경계선 지적 기능 아동들은 연령이 높아질수록 어휘력은 더욱 지체되는 반면 동작성 지능은 기능이 향상되고 있음이 나타났다. 또한 학령전기 아동들은 우울감과 소외감을, 저학년 아동들은 공격성, 충동성의 정서문제가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 언어성 지능이 우세한 경계선 지적 기능 집단은 우울 및 불안 행동이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구는 경계선 지적 기능 아동들에 대한 이해를 돕고, 연구의 사각지대에 방치되어 있는 이들의 연구를 활성화 시킬 수 있는 기초 연구로서 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study analyzed the cognitive, academic, behavioral, and emotional characteristic of borderline intellectual functioning(BIF) children and the difference of each characteristic depending on age and the dominant factor of intelligence. For this purpose, 85 BIF children who did not have other disorders aged to 6 and 13 were selected. The KEDI-WISC, KEDI-IBLST, HTP tests were given to them. Also, the K-CBCL was given to their parents. Data was analyzed through mean, standard deviation, and Kruskal Wallis test. The results were as follows.

1) BIF children showed low and flat profiles in all cognitive areas. Academic ability scored the lowest especially areas that require meta cognition, such as information processing, reading comprehension and calculating ability. Parents of BIF children reported that their children showed social problems and attention problems. BIF children themselves felt strongly alienated.

2) There are meaningful differences in the vocabulary scores and performance IQ of BIF children as their age increases. BIF children in higher classes showed lower vocabulary scores than BIF children in lower classes. But BIF children in higher classes showed higher performance IQ than BIF children in lower classes. BIF children in the pre-school period had more depression and alienation than BIF children in other ages. BIF children in lower classes had more expressed and repressed aggression than BIF children in other ages.

3) Parents of BIF children reported that those children whose verbal IQ is superior to performance IQ, showed more depression and anxiety behavior problems.

In conclusion, this study can be regarded as basic data for understanding BIF children properly, and activating further studies ignored in blind spot.
