본 연구의 주된 목적은 정신지체학생의 공격행동과 환경 변인들 간의 관계를 Bronfenbrenner의 생태학적 체계 이론을 통해 분석하는 것이다. 이를 통해 공격행동의 생성, 유지, 소거와 관련된 변인들을 미시, 중간, 외, 거시체계로 나누어 설명하고자 하였다. 정신지체학생인 A군의 공격행동은 미시체계의 급격한 변화와 동시에 나타났으며, 이는 정신지체학생에게 미치는 생태학적 전환의 의미를 생각하게 해 주었다. 또한 주변 환경 주체들의 공격행동에 대한 부적절한 대응은 공격행동의 유지를 돕고 있었다. 결과적으로, A군의 어머니와 고등학교 1학년 특수교사를 중심으로 한 미시체계의 변화는 중간체계의 상호 호혜적 관계 수립과 함께 공격행동의 소거를 이끌어 내는데 중요한 역할을 하였다. 이러한 생태학적 체계이론을 통한 공격행동에 대한 분석과 이해는 정신지체학생의 공격행동과 환경 변인들 간의 관계를 분명하게 설명해 주고 있다.

This study presents the way to provide an enriched understanding of aggressive behaviors of a student with intellectual disabilities. Bronfenbrenner's ecological system theory of human development was adopted in analyzing student aggressive behaviors that had a long history. The theory acknowledges that aggressive behaviors can be initiated, maintained, or extinguished by collaborative effort in both microsystem and mesosystem, along with strategies developed in applied behavior analysis. In addition, identifying ecological transition in child development plays a critical role in enhancing our knowledge and understanding of the student's aggressive behaviors. Such importance of ecological perspectives should be shared with other special education professionals and student' family members. Other implications for special education were also discussed.
