In recent years, we have witnessed growing interest in Latin American countries in Korean society and Korean news media has been the outlet of information regarding the region. However, the quality of information that Korean media has provided to us has not been evaluated properly. In this study, the author evaluates and analyzes news articles of Yunhap News on Mexico from January of 2010 to December of 2011 and compares them with the news regarding the US from the same source. To do so, this study applied the concept of “mass imprisonment” and argued that journalistic mass imprisonment has occurred during the period. After a detailed analysis of the news, the author concluded that Korean news media, especially Yunhap news and Daum news portal, provided rather incorrect and, often, exaggerated image of Mexico.
