초록보기

목적: 노안 연령층에서 인쇄물에 적합한 한글서체의 형태와 크기를 결정하고자 하였다. 방법: 오늘날 가장 흔히

사용되는 한글서체 기준하여 9~11포인트(pt)의 작은 서체 크기에서 함초롬바탕, 신문명조 및 신명조의 3가지 서체

를 이용하였다. 대상자는 41세에서 85세 나이의 101명이었다. 원거리 교정 후 40 cm에서 0.5시력이 되도록 근거리

시력을 보정하였다. 선호도 조사 후 10 pt크기의 88자로 구성된 단어를 대상자에게 읽게 하였다. 1분 동안 바르게

읽은 글자 수를 읽기속도(words per minute, wpm)로 계산하여 가독성을 평가하였다. 결과: 작은 크기의 서체 크기

에서 가장 선호한 서체는 신명조였다. 각 서체별 선호 크기는 달랐지만 일반적으로 다른 서체보다 10 pt에서 신명

조를 더 선호하였다. 함초롬바탕과 신명조는 신문명조보다 유의하게 더 빨리 가독하였다. 신명조에서 연령에 따른

가독성은 약한 음의 상관관계를 보였다. 읽기속도 상위 10%와 하위 10% 간의 비교에서 상위 그룹이 하위 그룹보

다 평균연령과 가입도가 낮았으나 서체간의 차이는 없었다. 결론: 신명조에서 나이가 많을수록 가독성은 낮은 경향

을 보였으나 선호도와 가독성 관점에서 볼 때 노안 연령층 대상의 인쇄물 서체로 10 pt의 신명조체 사용을 권고한다.
